Demonbracket 2014 - Your full voting guide

Friends of all footballing persuasions, welcome to the 2014 Demonbracket Control Centre.

A reminder, this is the competition where we ask you to make a decision on which player in the matchup you prefer based on whatever criteria you like. We're not asking you to vote who is a better player or who has had a better career, we're asking you to take two (or more) players randomly drawn against each other and make a snap decision about which man pushes your buttons more.

Tough decisions will be made, tears will flow, at least one person will bemoan what a farce the whole thing is. This is Demonbracket.

For more information on previous competitions see the preview page or either the 2012 or 2013 competition pages. This page will continue to be updated throughout the competition, so keep checking back for updated match-ups.

How to vote

Your options have been extended this year. During the match times listed below (some channels may have different times) you may cast a vote via:
  • Twitter (@demonblog)
  • BigFooty MFC board (this thread)
  • Email (demonblogger AT gmail.com)
  • Comments on this post
  • Internal mail (you know who you are workplace Dees fans)
  • The much maligned /r/melbournefc Reddit page
  • Shouting out the window of a passing bus
Each person may vote once a day. Unlike previous years when we practically begged you to rort the system with multiple accounts you are now on the honour system to keep it clean. To have your vote counted as valid you need to follow a few rules...

The rules
  • Vote on whatever criteria you see fit. We won't ask questions, and nor should anyone else
  • Voting will be conducted between 7am and 7pm AEDST unless otherwise noted. If you need to pre-vote for any reason (pending prison term Mr Hinch?) please email demonblogger AT gmail.com
  • You must cast a valid vote for every match that day or none of your votes for the day will count
  • You must pick a winner in every match up. No half votes, no "I can't split them". Yes you can, and you will
  • Non-MFC fans are more than welcome to vote on as many days as you like as long as you follow all other rules
  • Players are more than welcome to use social media, real media or paid advertising to promote themselves. Outright bribery, however, is not permitted
  • In the event of a tie both players will advance to the next round
  • If a match features three or more players and two or more tie for the most votes they will advance with all other players eliminated
  • In the event of a Grand Final tie there will be a replay the next day
  • The decision of the Demonbracket Organising Committee (i.e me) is final.
The Seeds

As previously discussed, from this year onwards the top eight players will consist of the defending champion and the seven highest survivors from the previous year's Best and Fairest.

1. Tom McDonald
2. Nathan Jones
3. Colin Garland
4. Dean Terlich
5. Matt Jones
6. Lynden Dunn
7. James Frawley
8. Jack Trengove

And now, enough of the administration - if everything's clear let's get on with the main event. For the third year in a row the draw has been conducted using the services of random.org. So whatever your issue is, it's their fault.
